Mr. Ferris, HR
Feed the Hungry
530 East Ireland Rd.
South Bend, Indiana 46614

Dear Mr. Ferris:

Samples of Cover LetterOn a mission trip I took last summer to Kenya, I was forever changed by the children I met who didn’t know where their next meals were coming from. Caring for children in impoverished nations is a very important issue to me, and for this reason, I’ve always admired and been supportive of your organization, Feed the Hungry.

Although I have never lived overseas, I have traveled extensively on annual mission trips and two school-related summer projects. I have a good understanding of global concerns and issues, and for this reason, I feel I am the right person to fill your Global Representative position.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Indiana University Bloomington with a degree in sociology. My ultimate goal is to help people, and I can think of no better way than to feed the children of the world. I also have some experience as a grant writer, which would undoubtedly be an asset to your organization.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope we have the opportunity to discuss this opening in person.

Sincerely,

Andrew Travis

Dear Ms. Fitzgerald:

I am a student at Rhodes College pursuing a degree in Graphic Design. I spoke with you recently at an on-campus job fair, and you invited me to apply for Oxford Magazine’s summer internship program.

I am very interested in this opportunity to improve my graphic design skills while working for a quality literary magazine.

I have experience using Quark, InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. I’m also proficient in Microsoft Office and am beginning to learn some web design. I learn new concepts quickly and work well independently. You can see samples of my work at portfolio.shaperstudiosmtl.com/jsullivan.

My academic record as well as my design experience and ability to take initiative make me an excellent candidate for your internship program. As you requested, I will follow up with you by phone in one week. If you need to reach me for any reason, you can call me at 555-8990, or e-mail jsullivan@shaperstudiosmtl.com.

Thank you for your kind consideration.

Eric Stanton
Jones and Richardson Advertising
6750 S. German Lane
Los Angeles, CA 91324

Dear Mr. Stanton:

I’ve been employed as an advertising executive for over 20 years, and I’ve never lost my passion for the creativity, variety, and fast pace this business provides. I am constantly looking for ways to grow and challenge myself, and I’m interested in joining your team as a Senior Advertising Executive.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations from Baylor University and an MBA in Marketing from the Ross School of Business. I’ve served as team leader on more than 15 projects in the past six years during my employment at VNL Marketing. I’m extremely flexible and can easily jump from a brainstorming session to more detail-oriented work such as demographics research. Two years ago, I received an “Excellence in Advertising” award from VNL Marketing for my years of service as an advertising executive with several successful campaigns.

I believe my leadership qualities, proven track record, and ability to work well with a team make me a great fit for Jones and Richardson Advertising. My work style is consistent with the overall goals of your agency, and I think you’ll find that my last two campaigns are very similar to the direction your company is going. I would love to talk to you in more detail about this position and how my experience and talents can fit your needs.

Sincerely,
